Our local playgrounds are a big part of everyday life. They’re where children burn off energy after school, families meet up at the weekend, and neighbours stop for a quick chat while keeping an eye on the swings. They should be places everyone can enjoy safely and comfortably, whatever their age or ability.
That’s why Council is carrying out a review of playgrounds across the area. The aim is simple: to make sure each playground is safe, accessible, and enjoyable, and that equipment and surfaces are in good condition. We’re also looking at how well playgrounds work for different needs, including inclusive play features, easy access for pushchairs and wheelchairs, and clear, welcoming layouts.
As part of the audit, teams are checking for wear and damage, loose or missing parts, trip hazards, and any issues that could affect safe use. We’re also reviewing gates, fencing, seating, paths, and signage, along with things like shade, cleanliness, and overall upkeep. Where improvements are needed, we’ll prioritise repairs and plan upgrades over time.
We know playgrounds mean different things to different families, so local feedback matters too. If there’s a playground you use regularly and something doesn’t feel right, or you’ve got ideas for making it better, let us know. Small details can make a big difference.
This work is about making sure every playground in our community is a place children can enjoy, parents and carers can trust, and everyone can feel welcome using.
